5th Straight Championship Game

The Lake Tahoe U19 Boys Tournament has become a regular stop on the Team NorCal Summer Schedule.  Since the first Tahoe U19 tournament in 2010, NorCal has participated every year.  We won the first tournament in 2010, and have tried to defend that title each year – and placed second each time.

2014 was yet another great time for everyone.  We typically rent a couple of condo’s in Incline Village, and everybody grabs the floor space as they can, and we have a great time in the mountain air.

The Tahoe Tournament is generally focused on graduating seniors, Elite players, and the occasional alumni still age eligible who wants to play with us again.  This year returning alums Cole Aikins, Gabe Sheehan, Andrew Seaman, Jonny Glazier, and Alex Lopez from our original Team NorCal team on 2009 rejoined the team for one last weekend of fun.

We started off Friday afternoon with a 16-1 thumping of Ryquin, followed by a 14-0 drubbing of the Falcons. After a great party Friday night hosted by the Lopez family, Saturday saw us beat High Sierra Blue 23-1.  Awestruck from Oregon provided us with a bit more competition in the final bracket game, but we still prevailed by the score of 10-5.  Saturday night we went to our regular haunt Crosby's in Incline Village for a Team Dinner.

Sunday came the playoffs, and in the hot sun and the thin air, we dug ourselves a bit of a hole – finding ourselves 5 goals down at the beginning of the 4th quarter to an aggressive Granite Bay team.  We scratched back and prevailed, with Alex Lopez scoring the winner in the first minute of overtime. This set us up for another rematch with the Adrenaline Tropics.  This years game was much more competitive – we were down by 4-3 at the end of the first half.  But it was not to be, and we once again went home with the silver medal.

Jonny Glazier for the second year in a row had more than 20 goals in the tournament.
